EDCC — EveryDay Carry & Compete

EDCC Safety Rules

EDCC operates on a strict, written safety model. Compliance comes first; arbitration follows.

Cold range

All EDCC events operate as cold ranges. Firearms are unloaded and holstered or cased outside of designated loading and unloading sequences directed by a Range Officer (RO).

Safe angles

The 180° rule applies on every bay. The muzzle must remain pointed downrange of the imaginary 180° line at all times during a course of fire.

Range commands

Standardized commands govern every course of fire: "Load and make ready", "Are you ready?", "Stand by", the start signal, "If you are finished, unload and show clear", "If clear, hammer down, holster", "Range is clear". Commands are spoken in clear English (and/or the local language as documented) and obeyed without delay.

Safety Area

The Safety Area is a designated location where shooters may handle their firearm with no ammunition present. No live or dummy ammunition is permitted in the Safety Area at any time.

Loaded magazine policy

Magazines may only be loaded under a Range Officer's direction during a course of fire. Outside of that sequence, magazines remain holstered or stored in compliance with the division's rules.

Match disqualification logic

Specific offenses trigger an immediate match DQ: any unsafe firearm handling, breaking the 180° rule, accidental discharge, dropping a loaded firearm, sweeping any part of the body, and intentional rule violations. DQ decisions are documented and reviewable.

RO authority

The Range Officer's commands are obeyed without delay. Disputes are handled after the course of fire through the formal arbitration process — never at the firing line.

Compliance first, challenge later

Safety decisions are not negotiable in the moment. Comply with RO instructions, then raise any disagreement through the documented appeals process.
